Rob Murray

Rob Murray is the European Managing Partner of Cohen, Milstein, Hausfeld & Toll LLP, focusing on UK and European claimant competition matters. He has extensive experience at EC and UK levels of merger control and competition litigation, with particular expertise in the infrastructure, consumer markets, financial services and telecoms, media and communications sectors.

Prior to launching the European office, Rob was a Reporting Panel Member of the Competition Commission, where he served on two referrals involving completed mergers (British Salt/New Cheshire Salt Works and Heinz/HP), and participated fully in Oral Hearings as well as in the preparation of all key documentation.

He also has substantial private practice experience, having trained with Clifford Chance and spent five years with its EC Unit in Brussels, followed by stints at Bond Pearce and KLegal, where he was head of the competition and legal risk management teams. Most recently, Rob headed up DLA Piper’s EU and competition group in the UK.

Over the course of 20 years Rob has advised governments, quasi-governmental bodies, regulators, multinationals, trade associations and public and private businesses on a wide range of issues including merger control, anti-competitive agreements, abuses of market dominance, litigation, complaints, telecoms and utilities regulation.

He has an Honours Degree in Jurisprudence from the University of Oxford, an LLM in International and Comparative Law Magna Cum Laude from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and is the consultant editor of the English edition of a comprehensive and prestigious new text on European Competition Law, to be published later this year by Sweet & Maxwell/Thomson.  Rob contributes to the City University Law Masters Programme.
